This is one of those questions that probably sounds silly once I type it out but I genuinely don’t have a good reference point for it, we recently expanded our storage space in Al Quoz to a slightly bigger unit and now I’m trying to figure out the right number of platform trolleys to actually have on hand without either constantly running short during busy periods or ending up with a bunch sitting unused most of the time taking up floor space we don’t really have to spare, right now we only have two and there are definitely moments during receiving days where staff are just waiting around for one to free up which obviously isn’t great for efficiency, but I also don’t want to overcorrect and buy way more than we need just because of a few particularly hectic days that aren’t really representative of our normal workflow, does anyone have a rough rule of thumb for how many trolleys make sense relative to staff count or daily volume, like is it more about matching trolleys to number of active workers during peak hours or is it more tied to how frequently large shipments come in regardless of staffing, while trying to research this a bit I came across some listings for leading warehouse platform trolleys in Dubai which at least helped me understand pricing ranges so I could budget properly, but none of the sites really addressed the quantity planning side of things which is honestly the part I’m struggling with most right now, also does anyone factor in maintenance downtime when deciding how many to keep on hand, meaning do you intentionally buy slightly more than your daily need just so operations don’t grind to a halt if one needs repair or replacement unexpectedly, because that hadn’t even occurred to me until just now while typing this out, I don’t want to be the person who either causes unnecessary bottlenecks by being too conservative or wastes budget buying equipment that just sits idle most days, so if anyone runs a similarly sized operation and has actually gone through this same calculation themselves, I’d really appreciate hearing how you landed on the right number for your team instead of just guessing the way I feel like I’m currently doing.
